ThiruvalluvAR is an Augmented Reality (AR) e-learning concept designed to offer an immersive learning platform. The project was developed to explore new, innovative ways of teaching Tamil literature, particularly Thirukurals, using AR technology. By blending the physical and digital worlds, we aimed to bring learning to life, making it more interactive and fun.
Approach
Our team focused on creating a conceptual model for using AR to enhance the learning of Thirukurals. This involved integrating 3D virtual objects into the real-world environment in real time, allowing users to interact with their surroundings while learning. By incorporating features like touch interaction, device movement, and gamification, we crafted an immersive learning experience accessible on mobile devices. We developed 3D models paired with specific Thirukural couplets, allowing users to visualize and relate to the literature in a more immersive manner. The app also features a quiz to test users’ knowledge and understanding.
User-Centric Design
By incorporating 3D representations of flora and fauna mentioned in Thirukural couplets, users are able to visualize these concepts in a way that enhances retention and comprehension. Each interaction is complemented by audio explanations, helping learners to grasp the meanings behind each couplet.
Features
3D Models & Flora/Fauna Themes: Thirukurals are grouped based on references to flora and fauna, such as a tiger or specific plants. Each model provides users with the couplet, its meaning, and an audio narration.
Interactive Learning: The app utilizes AR to place virtual objects in the user’s environment, offering a touch-based and motion-based interaction experience to explore Thirukurals.
Gamified Quizzes: A quiz feature helps learners test their knowledge of the couplets, making the learning experience more interactive and engaging.
